Adult photography is commonly referred to as boudoir. Boudoir Photography is a sensual and sometime erotic (adult) type of photography that focuses on empowering its subjects through sexy photos or video.  Boudoir subjects are often everyday women who are posed and photographed in lingerie or very sensual clothing.  Often with a boudoir photo or video session, the client and the photographer create images together that are both romantic and sexy. Most boudoir photography sessions occur in a bedroom setting, studio, hotel room, or other private area.  Boudoir literally means a woman’s bedroom or private dressing room.

Adult Photography Tips For Clients

Educate & Prepare – The most important part of preparing for your boudoir shoot is to figure out your style.  Adult photography ranges from you being very covered to you wearing very little if anything.  Remember, the best type of photos are the ones that tease the viewer.  It is all about the art of the tease.  Look at as many boudoir photos as possible and see what lingerie outfits, poses, and lighting speaks to you.  It is very helpful for your photographer to see examples that you like which will allow your photographer to recreate the poses and lighting just for you.

Communicate – Tell your boudoir photographer what you are thinking and feeling. Boudoir photography is such a personal and intimate expression, and your photographer should be in tune with you from the start.  If you are looking for sexy photos, yet they are posing you in an unflattering way the results won’t be what you want.  The best idea is to create an open dialogue and express your wants and work with your team to create the most amazing experience to support you through the process.

Location – Most boudoir sessions take place in private settings.  This is something that can be a little intimidating for some.  The pure nature of boudoir photography lends itself to bedrooms, bathrooms, and private areas that aren’t normally photographed.  Locations for your boudoir session are typically going to be in hotel rooms, boudoir studios, and even inside your own home.  

Safe and comfortable environment – You should feel comfortable with your photographer first and foremost. Before you shoot together, you should have already spoken with them prior on the phone.  It is recommended that you have at least one phone call, and also it never hurts to meet in person.  Building confidence and repour is a must prior to ever taking photographs. 

Privacy – Any reputable boudoir photographer will have you sign a contract for the shoot, and a privacy release.  You should always be in agreement as to how your photos will be handled. Any professional boudoir photographer will never publish your photos without your consent and most will not even hold your photos for more than a few months. Establishing trust will allow you to have the freedom to express yourself in during your shoot.
